Traverse City West Senior High School (too known every bit West High Schoolhouse) is a public, co-educational secondary school in Traverse City, Michigan. It is one of two comprehensive schools in the Traverse City Area Public Schools district, and one of six high schools in Traverse City. In 1997, Traverse City Senior High, the largest loftier school in Michigan at the time, was split by the school commune into two singled-out high schools due to extreme overcrowding. The newly constructed school in nearby Garfield Township was named Traverse City West Senior Loftier, while the original high school facility was renamed Traverse City Fundamental High School. The name of Traverse City Senior High was discontinued at that time. The new schoolhouse was finally opened to students on Jan 26, 1998.[5] Since that time, W Senior High's enrollment has by and large encompassed students living w of Partition Street. In 2009, a new gymnasium and athletic hub was added to the school.[6]

Academics [edit]
Traverse City West offers 132 classes to its students, including 17 AP courses.[ix] [10] In addition, students are likewise given the selection to dual-enroll with Northwestern Michigan College.[11] Students tin also attend the Career-Tech Heart of TBAISD, which offers special technological educational activity for juniors and seniors at West, as those of other districts under TBAISD.[12]
West's student body is divided into 3 "neighborhoods": Athens, Olympia, and Sparta. These neighborhoods offer smaller learning communities and the chance to class better bonds with their peers and educators.[9]
In 2016 and 2022, the Traverse City Westward student section, nicknamed the "Bleacher Creatures", won the Battle of the Fans, an MHSAA contest that determines the best student section in the country of Michigan.[thirteen] [14]

Traverse City West'southward sports teams are known as the Titans. Since 2022, the school has been part of the Bluish Division of the Saginaw Valley League for football, and the Big North Conference for other school-sanctioned sports.[16] Westward is considered a Partitioning-1 and Class A schoolhouse by MHSAA, meaning it is in the highest enrollment class for the state. Traverse City Primal High School [edit]
Since Traverse City Senior High Schoolhouse split in 1997, there has been a natural rivalry between Westward and Key.[18] In every twelvemonth since, the ii schools have met at least once every twelvemonth, with W winning fourteen of the 26 games the two schools have played.[xix] [20] Since 2012, this almanac game has been known as the Traverse City Patriot Game, and honors fallen members of the United States Armed forces from Northwest Michigan.[21] The winning team is awarded the Nowak-Olson Trophy. K Haven High Schoolhouse [edit]
Traverse Metropolis West too has an unconventional rivalry with the Buccaneers of K Haven High Schoolhouse in Ottawa County. This rivalry began in 2016, and has been played as West's second game of the season in every twelvemonth since.[19] This game arose equally the two cities are both designated Declension Guard Cities by the United States Coast Guard.[23] The winning team is awarded the Coast Guard Loving cup.[24] [25] West has won all four Coast Guard Cups since 2016.
